Noisy D4D

3.0 D4D (90 series Collie) noisy on tickover / below <1200 rpm whether it’s hot or cold. 250k miles, doesn’t use oil. Sounds fine as revs are increased and no vibration .

Is this likely to be dirty/faulty injector or should I be looking elsewhere first ?

Just one little squirt into the air filter pipe at a time and let the revs settle before the next squirt . Then go for a fast 20 minute run .

Just a cheap and easy way to know your egr is clogging things up . I also put a bottle of Wynns injector cleaner in the fuel tank once a year coz it can't hurt and i have witnessed it bring about a new lease of life to an old ford transit .
