Northern Portugal meander with a Spanish twist

I've added links to Wikiloc in the posts above for the days we drove tracks.

We had trouble finding camp sites for the first part of the trip, which is why we ended up in hotels quite a few times. I don't know if there are camp sites and we just didn't look in the right places, or they really don't exist, but we hardly saw anyone else on those parts of the trip, so perhaps there's no demand for them.

We also had trouble finding fresh milk, and bacon!

The local people were always very friendly, but often didn't speak English.

We used the app Park for the Night and always were able to find a place. It shows camp sites, campervan parking areas and wild camping spots that people have added. We were a bit earlier than you so some places only open in June, but the majority we just turned up and they were open and had spaces.

Thanks for adding the trail files.

I dont have a fridge, so we took UHT milk and survived off that, haha!

Thanks for writing the report Jon, looks like a great trip, I especially liked the look of the mountains in the Picos, photos superb and the tracks.

Looked a great trip Jon, very envious...... I've done quite a bit in Portugal and Spain over the years particularly central / northern Portugal, like the Douro Valley and you've confirmed yet again how good a playground it is for Landcruisers!

Thanks Jon, was an amazing trip, well worth the Covid I came back with ... here are a few extra pics.. apologies for any duplicates

Looks like a great trip! Thanks for the Wikiloc links. Do you think wild camping would be tolerated on these routes?

I'm not sure of the actual law in Portugal, but from my experience/chatting to friends who live there. If your sensible it's not a problem. We wild camped many times and never had any issues. Main thing understandably is no open fires.
So many areas are so rural there is no one around for miles!

Great write up and photos, makes me appreciate why I live in Portugal,it has so much offroad access...
