Project 80: Codename Grey Ghost

How do you think I paid for all the f****g stuff in the first place, Chris?

Damn. Another quid

£2 really there Chris. Or are you not counting misdemeanours :)
Hope it gets sorted tomorrow

Damn isn't bloody swearing. Oh, s**t

More good news today. Got a message from GSE. The ends of the struts actually unscrew. Didn't know that. All brackets the right way round now and the struts back on the right way up. Well done GSE.

Took the front prop off again today. Went for a spin and it's soooo different. Smooth quiet, quick, not T box clatter. Not so good in the bends but other than that it's like it used to be. I have to get that sorted. Might go to Linc in 2x4 but that's no issue. It's just the thought of spending £500 on a prop that has me shivering. I have one or two more things to try first.

Chris, you're thinking about this double cardan prop all wrong. Sure 500 quid seems a bit, but do it this way....

Buy just the double cardan joint for 250, the pinion end uni for 50, the spline section for 150, and get them to balance it all for 50 quid, and the jobs done for seemingly less.
How easy is that. None of it cost 500 quid and you get your complete prop shaft done.
Plus your swear jar will cover the double cardan end.

Let me know if I can help with any other financial advice.
cheers

WHAT?

Just the DC joint is £360 that's without welding or tube delivery or VAT.

There you go, see, you're breaking it in smaller chunks already. Much easier isn't it...... :icon-biggrin:

Update time.

Well, good to his word, Paul from Patriot arrived today with a bucket load or replacement bits and spares. He sorted out all the right bits and helped me build the rack in the front garden. Unfortunately, the rear luggage rail would fit with the roof tent, so that's gone back. Some Foxwing brackets will be coming to replace that bit. The extra room at the front of the rack is very welcome. I can get waffles, jerries, table, seats, gas cylinders or whatever up there nice and secure. Also somewhere to mount a lightbar. There is a bit of wind noise I think, but it's been foul today so hard to really tell. There are ways to cure that though

All went together perfectly, then we hoofed it up onto the roof and locked it down. I'm pretty pleased. And over the moon with the response from Patriot. I will put a new thread up about this with some better pictures on the recommend a supplier section. Want a rack? Buy British and buy Patriot!

It certainly looks smart Chris. Good service from Patriot, but only the way it should be if they were in the wrong.

Good result, it looks very tidy

They are cracking racks but wait till you want to take it to bits again, you will need a lot of very sharp drill bits lol

Nice rack
Great customer service too, they mess up and they come out and sort it.

Not sure I would ever want to take it to bits David, but why would I need the drill bits? If you mean that it somehow oxidises or something, all the bolts are Hylomar coated. Which I presume it to prevent that.

Nice thing about the Patriot compared to some is that every component is replaceable. Ding it on a tree or what ever, or roll the truck, you can order up all of the parts. That having been said, the African Outback rack I had on until today has been really good.

All the set screws seize up solid, well all mine are that way

That's probably why they supply a tube of Hylomar blue then. As mine is coated, all the bolts and fittings are coated too.

Looking good Chris. The whole vehicle set up is very neat.

Been as busy as a busy person from busy land today.

Had a play with my new bendy solar panel. Just a lash up for now. Not actually sure quite how I shall deploy it. I wanted to put in on the tent but it's a bit lumpy and bumpy up there. Hmm.

Anyway, it's making electricity and in very short order topped the battery back to 100%. The CTEK was kicking out 14.45 volts

Whilst I was on the drive, Postie appear. Hello Postie, what have you got in your bulging sack? As it happens, Foxwing brackets.

Lovely

Something I have never really understood, is why people waste their time and money fitting snorkels. The wading depth of the Cruiser is 700 mm as standard and with suspension lifts and taller tyres, it's even greater. Most people start crying when the water gets to about a foot deep in any case. So unless you are doing extreme off road in deep water or planning to cross proper rivers in the Congo, I just don't see the point. And they're a heap of money too for a dumb plastic pipe. They're a pain to fit as well. They seem to be the first thing that people fit too, which makes no sense at all. Anyway, you do what you like because I resolutely refuse to fit one.

Hey that's not funny, who's photo-shopped my truck!

Then I had a fanny around with the Foxwing and new tapered sides. I like them. They give great shelter. I couldn't really peg them out properly as I ran out of lawn

Good bit of photo shop work with the snorkel, looks like it's really there. Even the reflection in the windscreen looks good

Yeah, wait til I catch them. Look at what they did on another pic. They even 'shopped the damn holes in the wing. I am steaming I can tell you
