Project HZJ 78

Who has tried to fit Michelins XZL 255/100/16 on their troopy?

I have.. Well.. they were 8.25R16 sized, but that should be roughly the same as 255/100r16.
Slightly narrower and slightly higher then an equivalent BFG MUD. Did not touch anywhere in my case.
HEAVY tyre! Weighs a ton.
NOISY tyre! Lots of rolling noise. They will hear you coming for sure.
Very rigid as well, and though as nails - did not manage to puncture it despite trying hard ;-)
Pretty damn scary on wet asphalt.
And it looks cool..

But I would prefer the BFG MUD to be honest. Better availability, more flexible (better traction when deflated), quieter, better road handling.

Here is a pic tof my brand new XZL in 8.25r16 next to my worn BFG MUD in 255/85r16

And fitted to a troopy:

(can't post pictures inline yet... too new here :-( - See attached images )

255/100 is closer to a 9.00 than an 8.25, its the carcass that the fedima sirroco and ziarreli extreme forest are made from and they measure around 36.5" tall

9.00 x 16's (255/100r16) as just so expensive here.

I was keen on the iveco camper thats in the for sale section, but the cost of a new set of boots put me right off.

£200 a tyre isnt to bad to be fair they are alot better made then most normal tyres.

Thanks for the words about the XZL's, but I think the difference between your tire 8.25R16 and a 255/100/16 is alot.

Previous weekend I have fitted a bigger heavy duty oil pan, a bigger radiator and a complete turbokit.
And I like the results.

Sorry, I was wrong about the XZL sizes. I was confused with 255/85r16, which is more or less equal to 8.25r16. Above picture is 255/85 BFG MUD compared to 8.25.

As for 9.00r16: I wouldn't do it for remote overland travel, too heavy and too much strain on the drivetrain. You will probably struggle to fit two of those on your rear wheel carrier as well?
But it must look cool.

Do you do all of this stuff yourself? Respect.

Till now I dit it all my self, trial and error but it's not the first car that I build :)

I know they are heavy, but is just for when I go on short trips.
But maybe not a good plan for the drivetrain.

I should take some English writing lessons :)

your English is very very good! (better than some English people I know!) Great looking truck btw,
