Prop shaft greasing?

I read in my 95 work manual that you should use the same type of grease that has already been used to grease the prop shafts with.
I don't know what has been used previously, does it actually matter and can I just use the marine grease that I have to grease the prop shaft via the grease nipples?

Cheers

So long as you're not mixing moly grease (the black stuff) with 'ordinary' lithium bearing grease I personally don't think it matters that much. If you keep pumping in the grease into the nipples on the spiders until all the old grease is forced out then it matters even less. As far as the sliding section of the shaft goes it's easy enough to seperate and clean out and re-grease. JMO

Agreed, just don't force lots of grease into the sliding bit. I have been driving around with my nipples out trying to squeeze out some of the excess that's been put into mine. If you pump some in and you see the joint expanding - it's too much!
