Tonight on my way for a diesel fill up I cut a corner on a turn and drove over a small bollard about 18" high and ended up perched on top of it because it was jammed between the roll bar and the gearbox and it pulled off the bash plate. The front nearside ally rim got dented and the tyre got rather flat but only at the bottom. I tried locking the diffs but with no grip it wouldn't move plus the top of the cone shaped bollard was wedged. The nearside wheels were lifted to high for the tyres to get a good grip.
I had to call the breakdown boys who placed my now flat spare wheel with a plate on either side to make a ramp up over the wheel and down which cleared me. No other damage seems to have been done, I'll give it a proper inspection in the morning. Can dented allys be repaired?

Depends how badly dented, there are a few companies out there who specialize in ally rim refurbishment.

I used to use Pristine wheels but as I have not bent an ally wheel in years now I have not used them recently but will at some point need to refurbish my rims and I will use them again, they were very good and managed to restore a rim that another place had said was scrap.

They also offer a collection and delivery service if I remember correctly but as they are local to me I used to drop mine off and collect them after they were done.

Time for another suspension lift I think

It's a problem with big cars that 18" bollards look small from the drivers seat.

The day I bought my first Land Cruiser. A 2.5 year old 90. 10 times more than I'd ever spent on a car. On the way home from picking it up I parked at Sainsburys. Came out and drove forwards into the space opposite me rather than reverse out. Straight into a bollard I couldn't see from the driver's seat (although obviously I could when I drove in to the space). Ripped off the wheel arch trim and creased the wing.

Oopsy, Chas. Sounds rather unfortunate....

As already said, it depends on the extent of the "dent". Finding a reliable refurb shop may be the hardest part, but it should be their decision whether a repair would be safe or appropriate.

Alternatively, play safe and source a replacement, Karl always seems to come good on these occasions and there's often offers on eBay for rims.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but it wasn't long ago that I reversed into a lamp post that had been badly sited in a marina car park. On making contact the 80 was covered in glass, thinking I had smashed the rear windscreen. After getting out i quickly noticed that i had 'lightly touched' the lamp post and smashed all 2o halogen light bulbs. I made a sharp exit and later returned to see the damage done - a slight leaning post and luckily no security cameras pointing to the now cordoned off area. Damage to the 80: slight dent and scuffing on the rear bumper.

Sorry Chas but had to show you one of mine i did
best one i did was i knock down a pub sign which was on a 30 foot pole which help to knock a wall down a bit which as the pole came down pull the electricity cable off the wall. Oh the best bit the pole hit a car roof and made a dent in the roof.
So i made a good job of it. Oh at the time my new 64 reg lost a bit of paint on the back of the lorry
No problems from work either.

What's he doing Chas, "rolling" it down the M1 like a "whip and top"?

(ugh, showing my age knowing what a "whip and top" is :shifty: )
"whip and top" I bet you've got one in the back somewhere. I expect Karl will courier it unless he feels like a bit of exercise.
