I'm not sure what's happening here, maybe because the vehicle has been sitting unused for 6 months or so during the wettest wet season since 1908 - maybe the clutch is rusted closed? Total newbie to 4x4's but willing to give it a go.
LOL I don't even know what series it is... 70s series???

The vehicle will go into reverse and first gear and move when started in low range but when the engine is running and clutch pedal depressed it won't go into first at all and the gears grind when I try to put it into reverse
The hydraulics work ie the lever that goes into the bell housing moves when the clutch pedal is pressed.
When last used 3 - 4 months ago (not by me) "it was starting to get a little bit difficult to get into gear"

I'm hoping there is a way to unstick it without taking the gearbox out.
Any experience, advice, suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers
Laurence

Try putting it in first gear, or reverse if you have to pull it backwards, engine off, have someone press and hold the clutch and tow it a few feet with another vehicle. I did this with a neighbour's camper van some years ago when the clutch "seized" after being laid up for the Winter. If you're 6'10" and 400lbs you could try pushing it but they are not light!

Best doing this in first gear which is stronger than reverse gear.

Start it up and leave it running for a good while to warm up then if you have the room start it in first gear with the clutch pedal held down by a piece of wood and drive around and alternate braking and sudden acceleration..... if you're lucky it will suddenly release and stop driving ....at this point take the bit of wood out that's holding the clutch pedal down and drive around for a few minutes allowing the clutch to slip a little bit as you pull away.
