I jacked up both front wheels while playing around with the switch and turning by hand I can only get them to spin in opposite directions . Could be normal and maybe its not .

Any suggestions ?

If it was locked it'd be spinning in the same direction

Thats what i expected to hear Nick but I'm stumped as to why the front wheel randomly skips when full lock turning ?

Centre vicious is seized , must be , can't find any pics or vids to see whats involved in removing it ?

Maybe look for the same fault on a 3rd gen 4runner? hopefully should be more info being a more common U.S equivalent

My first thought was centre diff locked - but I suspect this is on an 80 so all bets are off (Alien machines to me !).

Bob.

Thought i posted in the 80 series section but obviously not and you guessed correctly Bob .

Think i'm looking at it here at 25.15
53 minutes he removes the viscous and as far as I can tell the only thing thats likely gonna have me swearing is removing the snap ring circlip .

circlip is fine if youve got the right pliers, mine didnt fit, had to buy some different ones that did.

I have no circlip pliers so it will be chopsticks or screwdrivers .

Jeez mate i was just looking my myself and "straight" snap ring pliers come a lot cheaper than that !

yup, think they got a bit more pricey since i bought em. Just remember you need ones that fit, already had another 2 sets that didnt.

had one of those that you can swap heads for different clips and every time i put it down it fell to bits so i binned it . Suppose it wouldn't be difficult to make a set for a job I will only do once

yeah, got a set of those, wouldnt do it, got another set for the circlip on the end of the cv, that is the right sort but the one i have just wouldnt fit into the tranny case so had to buy some smaller ones.
Good luck anyway.

Been trying to use filler and paint all week but if anything the air is damper when it stops raining  so at least this is a job i can do regardless of weather

The boss has other ideas today "you have errands to run"

Thinking about it though if its seized then why can't it be freed up ? Does it spin , slide back and forth , what ?

Ah never mind looks like a motorbike clutch inside so buggered is buggered .
