Who is doing what maintenance today?

Thanks, the stereo has Android Auto which is the main reason for putting it in, but the camera is handy.

The temp gauge is from the middle aisle in Lidl from a good few years back. Temp probe is wired on it so it had to go through the bulkhead grommet and is attached behind the passenger headlight. I also fitted a strip of led lights into it, and it's wired to light up with the headlights on. It's surprisingly accurate for something that cost a fiver.

The little display is a voltage meter, I have it wired to a switch. Keeps an eye on battery condition, but also gave instant confirmation when the alternator packed up a few years ago.

That's handy regards setting the ice warning indicator, my Golf has that feature, very handy reminder in Winter mornings, I often missed it in my Cruiser. I think I'll have to look for such a device now for mine. :)

Oil change. Trying to track down the MOT man's "oil leak but not excessive", no joy yet.

My heater wasn't working, flushed the matrix, seemed fine, then noticed the heater control valve cable was hanging loose. Connected it up and heat restored.

Removed the MAP sensor filter and cleaned it out. Lots of soot.

And finally, checking the tyres and a valve stuck. Luckily I have some spares in the garage.

Lifted the body off the chassis this evening in preperation for fitting some LED lights........

Starting to tackle some niggles on the new 105:
Found out why interior lights were not working, only 2 of the 4 door switches worked and had a poor connection on the ceiling lamp. Swapped the two working switches to the front doors and polished the contacts in the light. Ordered 4 new switches.
Installed 2 new Toyota 80Ah handed batteries as the others were mismatched and of unknown provenance.
New rear lights units installed as one was cracked and faded.
Replaced the wheels with standard 105 steel wheels.
Got the rear washer working. The pipe had come unattached near the rear door. The rear quarter was being filled with water instead!
Installed the “Power Station from the 60 : Solar Panel / BCDC charger to leisure battery running inverter and compressor and camping light etc.
Greased up the props.
Checked all levels - the front diff needed a litre of oil so have ordered all seals and bearings for a swivel hub service.
In fact there are 10 separate orders on the way from amayama to get it all looking good.

On the 120 ... Where might this oil be coming from ? It's engine oil.

Output seal at back of engine ? On my Hilux when I replaced rusted leaking sump last month, I noticed there was a drain hole between engine and gearbox to let leaking output seal out drip out of .
Can you see same between engine and gearbox on your 120.

Thanks. I will try and root around a bit and see. Appreciate the pointer.

The 80 series has a similar 'drain hole' between the engne and bell housing but I assumed that is more for draining any water that gets in there when wading?
Digressing slightly, the LR 300 Tdi engine has a removable drian plug in the bottom of the timing belt housing which you are supposed to remove periodcally to drain any oil that get past the various seals in there. That's how I discovered my timing belt had worn away to around half it's width when a shed load of black fibres fell out of the drain hole!

12v starter conversion on the 80. Voltage drop across the change over solenoid reached a point it couldn't be ignored any longer and I'd had the 12v starter on the shelf for over a year already waiting to become a high enough priority.

The main and transfer boxes are due an oil change so I've ordered 5L. The GL4/GL5 thing has been discussed on here before and this stuff came up in a search and specifically mentions "Yellow metal safe" in relation to the synchro rings so that's what's going in. I've used this seller many times before for both the LC and the bikes so I've no worries there.

Main and transfer box oil changed. Last changed June 2017 and 22k miles ago. Schedule says 2 years or 50k kilometres/31k miles. I used to change it at 12k miles when towing fairly regularly but I've not towed since 2019 so let it go longer. Oil came out looking like new, shame engine oil doesn't last as long!

Can I ask where you got your new prop? I need a new rear for the same reason.
I got this from Partsouq. Not cheap but ordered monday and delivered today. I did try ordering one from Amayama who showed stock, but they cancelled it.

If I was more patient I might have tried to find someone to rebuild the old one, but I have trust issues with other people's work :)
