    Steering getting stiff

KDJ120LC4, I am afraid that your garage is just guessing. One mistake could be tolerated to anyone, but this step-by-step replacement until you have a new car is an amateurish job. Please, check this page: Toyota Land Cruiser: Troubleshooting - Steering - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] Clear...

    Steering getting stiff

I am having the same problem (2004. model). Sticking steering at any speed; start happening quite suddenly. At one repair shop, they told me they have to rebuild a hydraulic steering rack, at a place where they are fixing heavy trucks steerings they started to gently hammer (tapping) the...

Tnx, Goodoldboy! I love the wheels too... I still have to take it to wheel geometry be checked/set. It would be shame to destroy those tires quickly now... I’m curious how they will act on long run hard braking in corners; they have 30 mm positive scrub radius now… And the color; it is in...

Tnx, Stumog! It runs (and stops!) much better now. I havent test it off the road yet. Only thing that really bothers me now is clunking sound when I ride it hard uphill. I think it comes from forward right wheel, sounds like a CV joint... that will cost me ANOTHER arm and a leg, I'm afraid... :-(

Alloy rim nuts on steel rims

Good point, Shayne! I think that my personal conclusion will be - Original alloy rim nuts could be used on steel rims in emergency, but one should not rely on them. To be replaced with thick steel rim nuts ASAP. (I like to make such "memo" notes to myself!)

Alloy rim nuts on steel rims

Oh, I have ordered steel rim nuts - they are just not yet delivered... But in the meantime I'm testing this option. And, BTW, you said: "nut in your pic only holds the wheel on by its countersunk taper" - But, all steel rim nuts hold the rim ONLY by the countersunk taper, they dont have flat...

Alloy rim nuts on steel rims

Original nuts have a conical (not rounded) shape at the bottom. And they fit perfectly into the conical cutout on the rims: So, I'm pretty confident that it would work - I was just surprised that they incorporate such a feature - "One lug to fit them all!!! (LOTR) :-)

    Center differential replacement

Here is an outcome to this issue… After two months of tinkering and fiddling on my central reducer, my repair guy managed to fix it! (Since I was a cheapskate, not throwing 1.900 € for a replacing one). He rebuilt it, with new computer and some new levers, and now it works! If you get stuck in...

Alloy rim nuts on steel rims

Steel rim story continues, to my surprise... Usually, the lug nuts for alloy rims doesn’t fit on steel rims – but it this case, they might! I thought that I’ll have to get me a new set of nuts, like those, to fit conical holes on steel rims, like those: But, I tried original nuts for alloy...

I had a interesting conversation with tire seller... well, interesting to me. https://www.ebay.com/itm/163299221108?ul_noapp=true After asking about DOT, it goes: They - The tire season has just started, and we sell them a lot. We should not have tires older than 1,5 years in our warehouses...

Goodoldboy, could you be more specific: which dimensions are questionable? Comparing 17x8-XF 6x139,7 ET0 CB 106,1 (rim seller) and 17x7,5 6x139,7 ET30 CB 106,1 (Toyota specs), they are almost same; 0,5" wider rim, 3 cm offset outwards. I've ask seller about those additional markings: Could you...

Thank you, Bruce Maybe, if one day my 120 “grows” into a full-fledged off-roader, I’ll get M/T tires too. For now I’m using it in quite softer role. But you are building my confidence in those Falken tires with your experience…

Thank you for sharing your experience with me, uHu I know that this Falken are not full-fledged winter tire, only all-season, but they have 3PMSF mark, and some decent sipes.
