1994 Land Cruiser VX 4.2 TD RHD

I can't imagine its to cheap to buy out there, UK and to some extent Irish used car prices are so much lower than anywhere I've ever been for some reason.

I was in Bosnia last year and saw a Peugeot 309 diesel with 200k kilometres on it and clean but nowhwere near mint, the price was about 1800 euro and it was for sale on the side of the road not in a garage forecourt. And that's in one of the poorest countries in Europe.

it's because you can make good money selling used cars in some countries that either don't have new cars being sold or haven't had for long, mostly Eastern Europe or Africa, but in a lot of countries they have to be left hand drive. There is very little demand overseas for RHD cars.

If you want low mileage look at island vehicles theres plenty of islands in Britain less than 20 miles long .

I think he's just shrewd enough to drum up interest before he lists it on ebay for auction , bet its on quite a few other forums too . Nothing wrong with that mind just bear in mind average prices in Malta and import duties . http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ear=1981&makeCode1=TOYOTA&searchRadius=0&mmt=[TOYOTA[LC[]][]]&sortBy=derivedpriceASC

@Shayne

Just to make you happy about it, when I got my hands on this car, I googled around for a proper forum so that I can lear/share info about it. Out of all the searches this seemed to be the best one and I registered. It will not be listed on eBay, this car needs someone who really appreciates its value and not someone buying it to re-sell it or make business out of it, and that is why I decided to post on the forum, as I believe people here love these cars. It's only listed on a local site, but people here prefer buying a UK import with some 100K miles on the clock rather than buying local!

Sorry how about this one http://www.carsofmalta.com/detResult.aspx?s=4710

That didn't work as i intended either but that prado is 15000 Euro i think it said

Yes the price is right, Euro 15000GBP or approx GBP13,000. That site is not very popular here, we have also a hefty registration tax and in the past 5 years they also changed the road tax fees, so if for example I had to buy an LC80 like mine from UK, I would be looking at a minimum of around Euro 20,000 (nearly GBP18,000) and then pay a road tax of around Euro 1700 per year (approx GBP1500). My LC80 is on the previous road tax scheme and I pay Euro 538 approx GBP 500.

Ok, so after going through the comments I decided to get more pictures and post them here, as for some history, as I previously said, this car was bought new from the local agent, since then it was used strictly on-road and for the majority of the time it was sitting in a garage. The photos will prove what I am saying. Why am I selling it? since 1994 Malta became densely populated, a 3 mile drive to work takes me around 45 minutes due to morning traffic, and imagine parking space availability! Parking bays are not made to the LC80's dimensions, so wherever I go, unless there is a good parking lot, I cannot stop! So if this was my weekend car it would not be a problem, but since it is not, it has to go :(

Rico, you have mentioned so many numbers now I am confused, so here's a simple question.

How much do you want to sell your 80?

OK Rico you have convinced me its likely a genuine vehicle , Malta has obviously achieved what the UK Gov is working towards as far as 4x4's are concerned . Look at the ignition barrel lads its hardly been used .

from the pictures it does look a nice, clean, genuine miles 80 series good luck with the sale. unfortunately for me at that price i would be looking at a newer 100 series.

...and the underside has never been power washed to look nice, it's just the same way it left the dealership!

It looks lovely Rico, and would def turn my head from my Prado !

It's same spec as a Jap import, no diff locks, so I've had a good look at what 12v jap spec models go for - difficult to compare the mileage, but I reckon price is too rich for me. Part of the issue going to be that cars I'm Malta are worth more than they are here, so £7k may be a reasonable price on the island.

When I looked at ferry costs and fuel to get back, it got a bit too high for me.

I will keep it in mind though as it certainly is a nice truck.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete,

It probably has same Japan spec as the local dealer used to import these cars directly from Japan, nowadays we get UK spec or even those built in UK!

Thanks for appreciating the beauty of my beast. I understand one would have to add up shipping costs or perhaps drive it!

This truck is a K292. I understand that that means it does not have axle lockers - it has free diffs on the axles and therefore left and rights wheels operate as they would on a 'normal' car.

Am I wrong in assuming it has a centre diff lock? I haven't spotted the switch on the dash.

Also, can diff lockers eg ARB be fitted to the K292 axles?

The centre diff lock is actuated automatically when you engage low box on auto models, this usually also disables the ABS. Manuals may have the centre diff lock switch on the dash but autos don't. Seemingly the centre diff lock switch can be retro fitted to an auto if the wiring is in place I seem to remember reading on here, in fact I have an auto 80 (M7SLY) that has had this done.
In my opinion this is a unique vehicle, probably one of the lowest mileage ones in the world today. Apart from the fact that it is not quite 94 UK spec ( cloth instead of leather, which is understandable given the climate, and lack of diff locks and lack of wood effect trim) does not detract from the fact it is worth a lot of money. If this was put up for sale at a UK specialist dealer it would be well in five figures and would be sold no problem, maybe to go in a collection of classic cars who knows.
I would imagine that ARB lockers can be fitted to these diffs as fundamentally the rear diff would be similiar to a 60 series diff and they can be fitted to those.

Just my thoughts on the matter

Andy

It does look good, keep telling myself not to look.....

I'm with you in that one Pete, you wouldn't get anything like it elsewhere, like I said before if it was 2 years newer........

Dear all, I have done an inspection today with a specialist, and I am asking GBP18000 for my truck. Bear in mind, it's one owner, impeccable condition and ONLY 25,000km.
