A bit of controversy

Come on Jon, I expressed a personal view warning that it was controversial. You wanted to challenge it because you fundamentally disagree with a related matter on payment to be part of the forum. Your response was considerably more politically motivated than mine.

Happy for you to have the last word on this, but we've both made our views clear. I stand firm that individuals who do nothing but take from others, in all walks of life, are heedless grasping worms!

I don't need the last word, but I challenged it because I think it reflects badly on the forum. The content draws on the disagreement you mention but not the motivation. Please post again so I don't have the last word!

I don't want to get involved in the bickering, but how can I (or any moderator) remove my supporter tag?

Likewise dont want to get dragged into this, but what/where is the supporter tag???

I've had my "supporter" tag removed from day 1, actually never had it appear at all.....:shhh: :icon-wink:

Sorry I didn't want my (slightly ironic) comments to start something - unintended consequences and all that! :shifty:

So let me explain.....I did "pay" the £12, Crispin confirmed receipt of the funds but for some reason the "supporter" tag never appeared and the ads were not removed. CP did offer to sort it out but I wasn't bothered as the primary objective of helping CP/Forum out with the costs, had been achieved.

So please don't bombard CP/Admins with "How do you remove the supporter tag?" PMs. :icon-biggrin:

Guys guy guys.
A bit of calm perhaps?
Some of the responses are quite vitriolic - and unnecessary in my opinion. Unless there are bugger forces at work here and hidden agendas? That said, even if there are such agendas, if they are interpersonal/keyboard warrior versus keyboard warrior spats then all they do is detract away from what is a decent place frequented internationally.
I haven't paid the £12. Truth be told I will say I hadn't really known about it/investigated.
What I will say is that as the forum grows then the costs will spiral and we do need to ensure that as it grows we have the basics of funding in place. I say this after similar experiences in many other forums. So in my case I will pay the £12, I don't walk into Tesco and pick up a cookbook and have the option of paying for it or just walking out with it. I will be more than happy to pay the £12, but I don't think that it's a relevant thing to have in my user id display, therefore I will pay it once the "supporter" tag has been removed. What I also intend to do is to contribute in other ways - to help other members, and help the forum grow. Truth be told I don't really care whether a member has paid or not BUT I do agree about people pitching up with the only intention to sell stuff then b*gger off as soon as they've made their money. Many other forums have a minimum post count before classifieds posting and pm's become "active" to them. If it's too low a count then people post drivel and lots of lol's, and if it's too high they don't join.
So in a way I agree with a lot of what has been debated in this thread - I am not a fan of "users", and try never to be one.

BUT, I think we all sometimes just need to take a breath and think about the language we use in writing our posts - inflection and jokeyness often do not come across well when typed out.

Just one thing jonnyboy and others. I feel that a post limit may not be the best way to sort such a problem as it may mean missing out on vehicles. If people are trying to sell a truck it may be that they only post the once and them not being able to do so here may mean that we miss out.

That being said. Spamming with constant posts about products from a brand new user i agree should be frowned upon and if it happens then I am sure the mods will soon put a stop to it.

Tbh I don't know whom the op is refering to but I am sure that there are enough people on here with a strong enough personality that if there truely was a problem they would have the stones to say something. Whether it be publically (not really the right way)or through a pm or Mod.

In closing I will say the IMHO if you aint got the stones to come out and say what you mean to the person you have a problem with then its probably better to keep schtum(????) rather than post a rather ambiguious statement.

Rollence, just so there is no misunderstanding can you give me an example of someone who has taken off somebody else. I just don't get it.

If you have not got an example you have not got a case.

Nothing to do with not having the "stones" , as you put it. I fail to see where my statement was vague in any way. There was and is no ambiguity in my statement. What you want is to know if it was targeted at a particular individual. That is not ambiguity.

Frank, my post was not made to try and expose anyone. I'm not going to be goaded into turning this into something it is not. Nice try though!

Those of us who do not pay are supporting the site financially just as much as those who do pay. The latter see the adverts and the advertisers think it is worthwhile sponsoring them. The other members only pay £12 then are free.

Ambiguious. To not have clear maening.
3 people took direct offence to your op but you were not refering to any of them. Seems pretty ambiguious to me

Come on guys, we're all supposed to be mature adults on this forum.

Reasoned debate is healthy, bitch biting each other is immature and unhealthy.

This debate went the rounds ages ago and (despite the bitching then) after very good points of views were aired, a compromise was reached.

Why are we at it again? Haven't we learned anything from the first time around? History obviously teaches us nothing.

Grow up for goodness sake.

Rant over. I'll get my coat.

Very sad to see this, really not in the spirit of how this was set up in the first place

You know, I was talking to someone in LC circles outside of this forum, I invited him to join.
Previous member he turned out to be.
"too many keyboard warriors" was his response, to which I expressed shock (being a member for only a few months).
I am sad to see this thread, and it's escalation.

Guys, if you have a problem with each other take it offline please, this does the forum no favours.
Moderators - this thread should be locked/closed imho.

I've just seen an advert on here for "Wonga". I should have paid the £12. I'm 6000 % down now :icon-biggrin:.
