Accelerating issue

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and seeking a bit of help. Probably discussed already but cannot find thread.
My 2004 Prado 120 1KDFTV started having issues accelerating. Sudden loss of power on speeds over 110 km/h or while accelerating harder.
Engine noise seems fine, no rattling or any of those sort. Idle is also fine. MAF sensor has been replaced a year ago because I had a similar issue and issues going uphill.
Tried cleaning MAF sensor and it did nothing. Cannot take it to the mechanic for a week so I'm asking for any advice possible.
When I contacted my mechanic he thinks its a fuel related issue.
Car is now 250 000 km and I'm trying to keep it pretty preserved cause I inherited it from my father and he loved that car so any help would be great.

Did not check the EGR, might be worth also, talked with my mechanic about cleaning it but he says is to be replaced if faulty and not try and clean it.
Not so handy but might try cleaning EGR myself in couple of weeks when I get my garage ready, watched a couple of videos already and doesn't seem to be that hard as my mechanic tells me.

Thanks!

Could it be the Suction Control Valve? I've read some people complaining about loss of power and they changed SCV for a new one and it fixed the problem.
There are shorter and longer versions, and I hear that the short ones aren't as good, so you might want to get the longer one in case it's the cause of your problems but who knows. I'm not an expert.

Fuel filter as above would be an easy place to start if no info, and considering the age of vehicle and the probability the scv is original, a change from the short to the modern long version would not go amiss anyway, in the long run. Plenty of info on changing that on here, some very recently.
Most of us I think, have changed it before it gives trouble, myself included. Both the filter and the scv could tie into your mech's diagnosis of a fuel issue, but if you can get live data (Techstream or similar) as Karl asks, that could give you a heads up on several fronts.

Thanks for the info. Will get live data on monday when I take it to the shop. Fuel filter was replaced about 20 000km ago (about 2 years ago).
Been looking into the SCV and Genuine Toyota comes in double the price of the Denso SCV.
04226-30010 is the correct one by my understanding?
Is Denso one as good as Genuine toyota, price difference is really steep.

I looked it up and it is the short original one, which as I read has issues and needs to be replaced so its probably it.

Denso is original fitment, Toyota buy in products.
The price discrepancy would be between Toyota listed parts and the same part obtained elsewhere from a reputable source, in most cases you will be paying a main stealer premium hence the difference. Be aware depending on source, just because an scv maybe described as Denso and have all the relevant markings/box graphics for half the price, it may well be a Chinese knock off.
Roughtrax for example in the UK, (there are others) are trustworthy for their parts cheaper than Toyota, and they do gen and non gen parts which are honestly described.
You still may want to change the filter, mileage depending.

Alright, it took a while to get diagnosed but it was SCV as you guys suggested so thanks.
Sad part is its the red/green SCV, and I heard those are quite faulty but nothing else to do then to get them replaced.

Alright, good to know as well. Are you going to replace it yourself? I've been thinking about replacing my own short SCV on 2005 1KDFTV 120 as well, but I'm not fully sure how reachable the spot down next to the engine is where the SCV is located. I guess one could access the SCV from behind front left wheel if you remove the plastic clipped mud cover(s) first.
The actual replacing is just 2 bolts and plug it in I guess.

I did mine from the top too.
I looked at doing it through the side, but personally, even with the wheel off and splash guards removed, (more work), there wasnt enough clear straight ahead access between rail and inner wing, especially kneeling or sat on a box.
Everyone is a different shape/size, so what works for one, won't work for another.
Had the lc been on a lift so I was standing under for lower and side access, it could have been easier ?
