eu in or out poll

What is the general feeling about the vote among the ex-pats where you are Dave?

If the UK leaves the EU will that have much of an effect on ex-pats living over there?

A mixed bag here really, those (like myself) that are legal then nothing changes AFAICT. I work and live here as a resident, and as a registered business I collect/pay VAT, pay my taxes etc. The pensioners are not sure whether the health service will still be paid for by the UK i.e. the E111 but think it will. Interesting that most (by my count) seem to want out, with the opinion that the EU is ruining the very country they and their parents fought for. The problem will be for the illegals here who flout as many rules as they can, they will probably return home if the police and authority checks continue. For example UK registered cars, recently they seem to attract more attention from the police checks than in the past. I am not saying they are picking on just the UK, but I was stopped THREE times at three roundabouts in my (Spanish registered) RHD LC, and the time frame elapsed for those checks, less then ten minutes!

I have often been stopped in my van (Spanish vehicle) and been given a good 'rinsing', once they see your 'Residencia' registration, your Spanish driving licence, your Social Security card, car insurance, and six month (van) MOT papers, and then a quick check your vehicle is not carrying melons stolen from a local field (honest), your free to go. :icon-biggrin:

TBH, I do not mind being stopped, despite being pulled more times here in six months than my entire driving years in the UK, I am happy that those people trundling around flouting the registration laws, and hence may be driving with no insurance, do get picked up.

Regards

Dave

It appears that the 'older' ones want out and younger ones in.....The dodgy builders around here with there non taxed, non MOT vans and tipper trucks will probably go back, but like Dave - those that are properly registered as a business will be OK - there is a 15 yr limit for expats to vote - we are on yr 14, Dawns voting, I am not, in my book, makes no difference to me - I can vote in local elections (for the Mayor) and Euro elections, but even being resident for 14 yrs I cant vote in French gov elections - well I could but I would have to turn into a Frenchie! As for health care for the retired - doesnt the E1-11 have a time limit? 2 yrs it might be - then your on your own - if you are drawing a pension, you may have to pay the minimum req to get french health care?
In my 'organisation' (we all have to belong to an organsation who you pay your NI contributions too) its 4500€ a year - even if your income is 1000€, otherwise you wont get full ealth care - you will have to pay for meds, hosp etc.

If on leaving the EU we decide to recind visa free travel for EU citziens [1], in your position would you need a work-visa? I'm in no way scare-mongering here, because I have no idea how it will work, but we (in the UK) are currently introducing a £35K/year minimum salary requirement for work visas for non-EU citizens. Doesn't matter that you reside here, pay your taxes, etc.

I'm expecting to get hit with a chunk more impôt sur les plus values should I need to sell my bit of France. EU citizens pay much less than non-EU currently. I assume you'd be fine on that front with it being your primary residence.

[1] I'd be amazed if we did do that.

I dont think so - we have our own company and have done so for 14yrs now. (I bloody well hope not anyway :laughing-rolling:) Mind you, I am probably on the watch list cos I dont go on strike like everyone else :) Yes little cottage is our only pad (apart from roof tent!)

Nobody can predict what changes an exit will bring but i doubt a radical revamp is on the cards because the exit would be seen from on high as a temporary measure that needs to be resolved . They would have about 5 years to get Britain back in the club after which time the dividends of independence would make our return to the fold very unlikely .

They can't ostracize Brits at home or abroad while continuing to push for freedom of movement , their own policies leave them with few weapons to use against a free democratic people so as far as i can see an image revamp from sinister to mr nice guy is the only tool left to them if they are to get what they want .

I think if we leave or even just vote to leave, others will follow.

The Remain campaign are looking at Europe as if viewing the Titanic from the good side shortly after it struck the iceberg.

I have just come across a poll on my yahoo homepage said to be run by ITV and it is showing 84% out against 15% in disregarding fractions .

I've just done a fair bit of googling expecting to find numerous polls but i was disappointed , financial times and other influential names seem to have frozen polls showing the remain camp slightly ahead which leads me to think the vote will be a farce and they have already decided it will be 50/50 and declared void . The odds offered from bookies are probably a better unbiased indicator and the last time i looked it wasn't good for exit .

So did all you guys in the UK receive your government propaganda yet?

Got mine Ben, sent it straight back to 'call me Dave'

Nations set to join the EU in the near future - Turkey, Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia, Ukraine.

Many have already started accession talks & the UK has never blocked a country from joining.

This will mean a combined population of 134 million people will get unrestricted access to the UK, the NHS, schools, social housing

and jobs. Obviously they won't all come but they could if they wanted to.

Only Brexit will stop it.

Just got confirmation I'm on the electoral roll in time for the upcoming elections and referendum.
