Just doing a routine oil change, decided to replace the sump plug with a magnetic one from Roughtrax. Not even at torque and its broken off in the sump!
Wtf do I do??

The plug tightens up against the flange so the bit that's left in the sump shouldn't be that tight unless it's the wrong thread? Try drilling a small pilot hole (ideally a LH bit if you have one) and use a small screwdriver or extractor. If it's magnetic, any metal swarf shouldn't be a problem if the drill goes right through.

I’m a bit limited in tools and know-how! How small a drill bit? Haven’t got a LH bit unfortunately.
Many thanks!

Relief! Although, drilling out didn’t work, a closer inspection revealed the jagged edge of the broken plug which allowed some purchase with a small screwdriver, allowing me to unscrew and retrieve.
As @Towpack pointed out, it was quite loose and came free easily, thankyou for your advise!
I was shitting it when it happened, especially since its back to school next week and I’m on a laning trip tomorrow arranged by the Jap4x4 group!
The offending item

Just to add, I did remember to inspect the oil pick-up strainer which was clean and shiny. Took a pic but my iphone was struggling to focus.

Looks like it's made out of aluminium, so the torque will be way lower. Personally I'd rather stick with the original steel one. You then know it's done up tight and wont break.
Yeah, looks like Aluminium or Chineseum! Certainly too weak and not up to the job. I’ll report back to Roughtrax too.

Phew, disaster avoided, we used to say things like that which broke as easily as a 60's transistor radio from Hong Kong were made from monkey metal.
Purely out of interest had the magnet attracted anything.

No mate, came out clean!
Crazy to think something as small as this could have caused so much trouble.
