Pyrenees 2011, 27/05-05/06, planning

Hi jon, did you find the mud run? Hope you are having a great trip.
Cheers

Good to hear the update on progress, cant wait for the photos to be posted next week!
starting to get together stuff for packing, and last minute servicing on landcruiser, new front brakes disc/pad and ARB bushes.

Wild camping spots will be of interest. I have researched some commercial sites for the first route, then planned to use the ones you stayed at after Andorra.
will have to talk to you next week to find out about the sections not matching map etc
There looks like a nice site at Castelbo, but not sure if you passed this village before you went to Andorra.
enjoy the last 2 days of the trail

Tony - I think today they will be covering the mud-run part
Still not sure if I will tackle that solo and also risk the mad farmer that guards the start of it!
I have diversion route mapped

we're at camping montagut enjoying the pool and making the most of not being able to get on the track just after ripoll, they've closed the roads so we coudn't get to the mud run without going a long way round. tomorrow we'll carry on with the route from here. will fill in the details when we get back Andy.

pain about the road closures, would be nice if they are open by 2 weeks time, but i was probably going to skip the mud-run anyway, so not missing much trail really if i have to divert also
hope you enjoyed all the fords in the olive groves today!

they forgot to put the water in some of the fords but there were a couple of good ones. Got home about 8:45pm tonight :) bumped into Chris from BOAB in the queue for the ferry in Calais!

welcome home - but we need - guess what ! :banana-gotpics: :banana-gotpics: :banana-gotpics:

funny that you met Chris from BOAB - ironic in a way!
was the pyrenees trip more enjoyable than the raid asterix?

it might take people a while to post pics, lots of catching up to do and sorting through them but lots were taken. I've checked I have a gps track so I can fill you in on the variations we found and the camps we used Andy. The tracks were a good mix varying between simple track with great surroundings and bit more interesting track but not so as you'd worry about getting home again. The fords on the last day were entertaining just when we thought it would be a plain run to the coast :)

Phew - back at last at 06:30 this morning after a marathon drive. Did a total of 2996.2 miles over the 9 or so days!

Thanks again Jon for putting it all together for us!

Cheers

gosh - 2996.2 miles - an epic trip - will be similar total for me then... I am starting 120 miles north of you Gary, but using the Hull>Zeebrugge ferry
an oil&filter change will be required when i get back then me thinks, change it on saturday in preparation
and doing a few more days offroading than you guys did

was the trip this year more enjoyable than the france trip last year?

Blimey Gaz, did you stopover somewhere on the way back? We had a bit of a messy run up from the ferry getting back to Jon's about 20:45; quick half-hour tidy up of my gear in the truck & change into the biking gear & I was home by 22:45 - woke up this morning wondering where the truck was & why I wasn't wrestling the Quechua tent to the ground!!!

Splendid trip & many thanks again to Jon for all the organising & planning. Roll on the next one

Cheers

We arrived home at 2.30am - that was with a few snooze stops and at 60 miles an hour tops all the way to reduce the osciullations caused by the worn out bush on the anti roll bar. Total milage was 2616.

Heading north on the M25 a few miles past the Dartford Tunnel we drove past a burning Land Rover Discovery on the hard shoulder. It was in full blaze with no hope of salvage once the fire brigade would have turned up.

Jon - many thanks for bring the trip together. We had a great time and the route is highly recommended. As you said earlier, green laning in the UK will never be the same.

Gav - ha, wrestling with the tent :) Mine is still out after a count of ten :) It is still crammed in the back of the truck as I cannot get in back in its cover in the state it is.

Hey Reinhard, glad to hear you got home safely 8-) Did you catch the same ferry as Gary & Angela??

If you decide to keep the tent ( ) & need some tube making up, let me know 8-)

Cheers

Hi Gav,

Yes, we were on the 5.30 ferry as well. I'll let you know about the tent.

cheers

First sign of the mountains in the distance when we left our French camp site on Sunday morning

aha - a "teaser" photo! good campsite view.

just read mudrut spring adventure report on devon4x4 - don't like look of the rockfall near Arres - and hope snow has melted a bit more in the 6 weeks since they encountered trails blocked by winter snow

Your cooling system will get a serious work out, there are some steep climbs that just go on and on, and on some more, think we were at about 2200m for this shot.

The tracks were mostly easy going but there's almost always a huge drop off to the side
