Who is doing what maintenance today?

Chris, how are you getting DAB? Is it in the headunit?

Tony, that isn't the one under the passenger footwell is it - near the wishbone?

If it is, you can get a spanner on the nut above it. It used to be captive many years ago but brake away. So I stuck a not on. I thought I had migged it in place but maybe not.

Chris

Yeah that's the one Chris. I tried with a spanner but it kept on slipping off, Lincomb mud not helping. I got bored with it in the end as I was running out of time, but will tackle it again. If I still can't get it off then I will use it as an excuse to get a welder and then I will fix it :-)

changed front brake discs and pads
changed engine oil/filter
got tracking done by a garage.
checked all front/rear diff oil levels, transfer and ATF fluid

extended front diff breather - so it now ends next to windscreen motor

aircon isnt quite cool enough, had a look at "sight-glass" with engine running, lots bubbles, so will try and get it regassed or get a halfords top-up kit

put roof box on and started packing ready for 2-1/2 weeks in Pyrenees -

Yes Paul, it's a DAB head unit with std radio too and a CD player. From Halfrauds.

It has a little twig and a mag mount with a nice long lead to get you just about anywhere on the roof. Cracking thing. I also liked the radio / mps player that they had (not DAB) which had no cd drive in it. Well with ipod connectivity what's the point of having a cd player. The front opens up and a tray appears for your ipod. It all closes up again with the player inside! If it had been DAB I'd have bought it. All it is, is a radio and an amp. Brilliant.

My aeriel is bust on the truck and I never listen to anything other then Planet Rock. Analogue will get phased out and I wanted ipod connection. If only it had built in GPS too, I'd have been made up. The bluetooth music connection is awesome.

Chris

Replaced front and read diff oils and fuel filter. Tomorrow its a wash and look into the onboard air install i have been planning.

Wired my X - Lites in via a smart new Carling switch (they WILL fit in Toyota holes with a bit of trimming) and extended all four bump stops. Arches took a bit of a pounding with the new tractor tyres last weekend.

Straightened my wich bumper with a short length of scaf pole, and NO I haven't hit another Toyota garage wall.

So I understand that it was a Land Rover dealership this time, good work

No walls this time, it was a tree on Salisbury Plain that was lying in wait and leapt out in front of me,

Those pesky trees can cause some damage, at Lincomb one jumped out behind me when reversing and made a mess of my tailgate

I don't think they are trees at all Rob, I think they must be Triffids, they can move on their own, sneaky bast*rds ;)

Well, finally the parts arrived for the T-Max winch.

Its an Outback 12500 with a "waterproof" solenoid housing which turned out to be anything but. Lots of seals around the cabling and remote connector but nothing where the two halves of the metal body fix together. As its over 12 months old there is no warranty despite the battle that it is a design flaw or incorrect assy (i chase companies for warranties as part of my job) and i had no option as the new owner needs a working winch, so have paid for a new one and will keep trying to get money back.
Funny how the replacement parts are a different design if there was nothing wrong with the old one ;)

changed fuel filter again after another loss of power. Filter quite brown and has gogas growing in it again  Time for some anti-goga treatment me thinks.

Fitted a new tow bar :) No more swapping between unmodified OEM and modified OEM for me, finaly found a low profile 100 series bar and AHC (adjustable height coupling) combination that is type approved so legal to use

Finally got round to fitting the CB - loving the double din  No more banging my head on it when offroading

Mostly 2 hours of jet washing trying to remove what seems like most of Derbyshire from the underside of my 80. That and looking ruefully at the ever increasing number of dings and dents in the bodywork.

Still happy though as it went damn well in all that mud and I even got to rescue quite a few stricken chaps in the trees. Again, that 9.5 TDS winch never even came close to struggling.

Last time I was on Salisbury Plain I couldn't get the transfer box into low range. Well the Cruiser is in with Greg :ugeek: at the moment for a complete service and check-up and when he drained the T/box oil along with the oil came a load of metal bits some fairly large, more than just filings, and it still can't be put into low, in fact we had a bit of a struggle getting it back into high range, the upshot is, it's fcuked, Greg will be performing a post mortem tomorow, luckily he has a s/hand one that can be cannibalized to get me back on the road in time for Croatia next week.

Fitted new springs and dampers to the front of the 78 ..... will do the rears tomorrow

Fitted the new Nat Luna fridge/freezer, modified the flight box I have in the back for spares and tools, it now has a hinged lid instead of the turn buckle type clips that secured the top, and had the air-con re-gassed, I'm anticipating heat in Croatia
