Who is doing what maintenance today?

Not really maintenance but put my roof bars and tent back on ready for a bit of camping and received box 1 of 2 of my pfran led kit in the post :)

Sorry Jon 'my pfran led kit' sounds like somewhere in Wales?

What's that? I know I want one already.

 Lots and lots of LED's for the interior and also some Cree 5W reversing light LED's, the 100 series version of what Andy linked to. Great guy to deal with

Looks nice Jon!!

Me - fitted my drivers side mudflap just in from Stef.

One shiny truck, polished, and one really muddy mudflap

Box 2 of 2 arrived today so now I have my CV clamps as well :)

Wanted to tidy up the ends of my roof bars on the drivers side so instead of buying some unequal angle for stupid money I plasma'd a bit of 100x50x3 aluminium box section I've had lurking in the garage for ages to make some. Has slots in the top face for the RT ladder to hook onto and the holes in the side face are for the poles I use to hold the RT door open to make a canopy. Not sure I like it now it's done.

No maintaince on the truck 'cos it's still with Julian, but I re-wired the garage and fitted two more 13a twin sockets and some floury lighting, also wired up a PIR light, so's when you drive in a light comes on to welcome you home  took two days to get it all done, while I've got room to move in there I'm getting it ready for the homecoming, some shelving to be fitted next, the old girl won't recognise the place

Oil change and power steering fluid change. Noticed bracket for bash plate is broken. Will have to get grinder and welder out :( Next weekend.
edit:
Fitted the led bulbs for the side lights and bumper indicators. Quite bright and "blue".

Got a pesky loose connection somewhere on the ARB

been out and about this morning and that bit of angle I put on the roof bars has got rid of most of the wind noise I didn't really notice was there till its gone! Guess all those sticky out bits were making a lot of noise before.

Corrected my caster angles on the front.

Prop is almost straight now. That'll do for me.

Chris

Chris, out of idle curiosity, did you just move the front bolt/hole? From the pics, it looks like the 2nd one is untouched. Looks like a proper beefy job there! well done
So the million $ question - how's it driving now?

Cheers,

Andrew, I pulled the front bolt, inserted a nut and bolt through the top of the bracket and jacked the arm down as prescribed in the threads I have seen. I marked the line of the bush inside the bracket and drilled through into the bush insert. I pushed on and drilled right through the other side of the bracket. Then I made two plates to reinforce the 'oles in the bracket. These were pretty sturdy. Not washers. The position I selected was based on the prop being almost straight. But also because it left metal in the bracket inserted of breaking through. I stuck the nut and bolt through, nipped them and Bzzzzzd the plate. I am not an expert in vertical welding, but did my best. No way it that ever coming off.

On the off-side I hit a snag. The diff is in the way so you can't drill straight. And the hub is in the way if you come at it from the other side. So I stripped out the hub and brake backing plate, then locked the steering over to get an acceptable angle of dangle. Not brill in my view. No one mentioned this factor in their write ups.

How does it drive. Oh yes, much better. Instant difference, the wibbly factor has gone. It was tolerable, but not tight. I wouldn't do more than that on the front hole. Maybe I might try the back hole (Oooeeer Missus) but every bit is an improvement.

That help?

Nice job Chris. Do be careful on the back hole...

as for me rotated the wheels once again, and re greased the spare wheel chain winch mechanism.

Indeed Adrian. Don't want to end up in the 5h1t.

Chris

Should have said Chris, I have a set of Slee correction plates in the shed you could have copied.

day started off badly......went out to work this morning and she wouldt start, batteries dead... in a rush i took my other halfs car to work and convinced myself it was my fault for leaving on the rear interior light last night....by 12 id had enough if thinking about it so went home to find the light was in the off position, so pulled the little nissan 1.4 next to the old girl, popped on the jump leads crossed my fingers and she started!!!! couldnt believe it!!!!

while it was running i checked and i had 14.8 ish volts going into each battery and it was constant so i thought it looks ok i'll leave her running abit.. noticed a couple of added wires on top of the battery so followed them and they went nowhere but were live! so i set about my next task...

so far i have pulled over 30meters of cable from the car that is not being used anymore, theses were...

2 complete hard wired phone kits front to back and mics

2 sets of wiring for cd changers

1 complete wiring for spot lights

1 live and earth cable front to back going nowhere

just shows you how lazy some people are and how much crap can be fitted over the years. alot lighter now and looking forward to wieghing it in!
