Who is doing what maintenance today?

Had the old girl up on all 4 ramps today, inspection and rust checkover.
Gave a blast of ACF50 where it looked like it was needed but in all honesty could have easily left it till the spring.
One of the rear suspension height sensor adjusters was loose so nipped that up.
Had the wheels refurbed last week, my handy little bodyshop did the deed and turned the tyres on the wheels as i requested, painted the mirror casings while they had it cos they were looking scabby, and mopped the headlights, looks nice again now.
Pity the wheels arn't diamond cut any more, thankfully the finish isn't dull, i've seen some terrible repaints look like still in primer.
Gave the whole body and wheels a ceramic coat last week, rain beads superbly now.
Ready for winter.

Please post a pic after it rains. To me that is the most beautiful thing to watch.

Last week did my 5K service. oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter changed and cleaned MAF sensor.

How often do you all change the MAP filter. I saw a youtube video about how to change that and now preparing my mind for this task. I am now at 82K miles.

Still trying to get my head around 5000 mile oil changes - that would be about every 4-5 months for my Hilux LOL! AFAIK the MAF isn't expected to be a scheduled service item and should only need replacing if it has a problem. At 80 odd thousand miles I'd leave it well alone unless you think you have a problem with the way the engine is running, or it throws a CEL.

Only changed that little filter once in the years i've owned the vehicle.

I'm a regular oil changer too Raj, very rare one of my cars goes over 3000 miles between oil services.

I once worked for the best maintained lorry fleet in the county and quite likely in the top 5 over the whole country, my boss was a tight bugger but he always overspecified the truck engines and boxes when ordering vehicles so they were running easily and serviced above and beyond everyone else because it paid dividends in the long run, he always said oil is cheap engines gearboxes axles downtime and recoveries are not cheap.
We ran those trucks for 7 years usually, long before speed limiters were a thing so circa 70mph ish all day long @ 38 tons which from around 1982 was max weight of the time, seldom had any troubles and when defleeted a queue of owner drivers eager to buy.

True, oil and service parts only cost about 120£ for me. Australians say 5000kms is best service interval for people like us and this would be 3000miles. I will keep my MAP filter one in wish list

Agree I kept reminders every 6 months for oil change. With MAP filter, I didn’t notice anything different with performance. When weather is good I keep thinking what should I do to make my love better than it is now:cool:

Personally I wouldn't be changing non-service parts unless you have a good reason - you'd just be changing a known, functioning item for a new, unproven one. Just my 2p...

Today Barbie went for yearly rust treatment. Until next summer, it’s going to be clean and shiny

Replacing lower control arm bushes and ball joints - someone been there before and has left a mess. Inner CV boot clip is missing so I may end up having to sort all that too.

Replacing under body covers which are now pretty fubar with ASFIR covers.

Taken out 2nd tow seats, sources some trail-tsilor brackets and about go try design a full-length packing platform.

To come, gobi-x front bumper and winch, then it's done. Haha, he wishes .... I suspect the turbo needs to go for a re-furb

Front door outer weatherstrips changed on the 105. Also changed side front wing indicator units. Replaced interior rear view mirror. Had to add a Turbo badge since I had one and the truck has a turbo.

Now the horns are not working and MOT looming. They work from external power, the fuse is ok, can’t find a relay so it’s aggro now!!

Only buy Toyota sensors. A lot of aftermarket ones don't work straight out of the box leading to frustration and more fault codes.

Had a rumbling which coincided with the revs raising slightly as aircon cuts in, thought it might be a bearing breaking up in the aircon compressor.
Loosened the auxilliary belt and had a feel round all the driven parts, found play in the water pump.

Ordered the pump from Roughtrax, and despite it not needing a new cambelt mileage wise decided to fit a new cam kit and aux belt at the same time cos its probably been 6 or so years since, items arrived next day.

Did the job today, all went well, new coolant new auxilliary belt too, obvious grumbly bearing in the water pump once removed so definately that, decided to change engine oil and filter, leaving the sump bung off overnight for a mega drain and the usual inspection of the oil pick up.

Should have renewed the water pump when i changed the cambelt last time.
