Knocked the quotes out, but my two pence on this...
We pay for the right to make someone somewhere in europe more powerful than our own pm in British affairs . Why have a prime minister then ?
>> I don't know why you think the European Parliament is more powerful than the UK parliament in UK affairs, so can't answer this one. I don't think they are. I do think they influence some legislation; some of which I think is a good thing, some of which I do not. Even the Out campaigners put the figure of legislative influence at under 45%, the In lot reckon its about 12%. I suspect it's somewhere in between.
We live in a free world , does anyone honestly think europeans will refuse to import the goods we already send there if we exit ?
>> If EU manufacturing standards change and our goods do not, then yes I do think they will refuse. I also think we will have import duty imposed making UK products cost more in Europe. Unless a free trade agreement is negotiated. Which is entirely possible, but will almost certainly involve paying into the EU and visa free travel; so the same as now without any representation in the European parliament.
I think North Korea remained a communist country until very recently but even then there was nothing to stop them visiting a free europe or Britain .
>> I think it's generally still regarded as communist., although there are many flavours of communism. Aside from most NK citizens being prevented from visting by their own government, they need to apply for a visa to visit the EU including the UK. If we don't like someone we don't have to admit them. This applies right now to EU citizens too. Not sure what the point is here though.
Opinions abound on both sides of the fence but all i am hearing from the IN crowd is "we only pay a little bit" but my question is what do we pay for - the right to trade - its a free world are they going to put a trade embargo on Britain if we quit?
>> Regarding trade in goods and services, it wouldn't be an embargo. It would be import duty, and the additional beauracracy that creates. Depending on our attitude to requiring visas from EU nationals it could also mean visa requirements for UK citizens to live and work in the EU. As well as the whole stable and prosperous Europe which I'll mention although I know that doesn't concern you.
And hope you feel better soon.
