eu in or out poll

Interesting historical perspective....

So France blocked the UK from joining the EU until we managed to join in 1973 yet now they (at least the EU is) funding the Remain camp to the tune of millions,
https://www.facebook.com/notes/brit...pport-a-european-super-state/1002263456522053

Does that article show the EU is funding the remain campaign? Or is that a reference to the EU funding of the BBC ( about 0.002% of annual funding [1] ). Seems a shame the author doesnt quote any cites for their figures, or as far as I can see even include their name. I'm not saying that approach is any worse than many remain articles. Just annoys me when people use unreferencable figures.

That article states "The BBC has admitted taking more than £2 million in European Union funding" and while they may not use that for any sort of political purpose it will free up other money for other use.

Completely agree. But I think we need to look at that figure, which is £2 million over 3 years. And compare it to the £3.7 billion received each year in license fees, also stated in that article. It is a very, very small percentage of overall funding. But it leaves the BBC open to accusations of bias, and allows anyone to state just the figures they need to push their point.

So the BBC are supposed to stay completely impartial are they?

BBC Produces Obama Documentary Funded By The European Union Just Weeks Ahead Of Pro-EU Campaign Speech

http://www.breitbart.com/london/201...ama-documentary-funded-by-the-european-union/

I'd like to think they are, but impartiality is always going to be subjective. I think we regularly hear both sides of the political spectrum critisize the impartiality of the BBC when something doesn't align with their thinking. I haven't seen this documentary to have a specific view, I don't know if you did? I know where Breitbart's interests lie so I can make some inferences on their analysis. Equally there is an EU logo on the credits so I can decide how likely I think the BBC were being swayed by funding for this project. I think it's impossible to produce media content that everyone agrees is impartial.

I do find it slightly ironic that many (not all) who want to leave the EU citing economic ties with the US and stability through NATO of which the US is the dominant power, also decry the airing of the views of the leader of the US in making that decison. Although I don't think this particular documentary had, or is airing any EU related material. Someone may correct me.

He was a great PM before that idiot we have now ousted him! He wasnt afraid to call a spade a spade and hes saved hundreds if not thousands of lives by stopping the boats!

Congrats on keeping your flag!

I hope we do the same when the time comes! :flags-australia:

The wonders of the internet will cause lazy reporting from the OUT crowd as the BBC link Chas offers shows the truth to back it up can be found in 2 minutes .

I am still waiting for the IN crowd to make a suggestion worth investigating on this thread .

Whats the truth in Chas's post? That the BBC gets some EU funding?

I did read an interesting pro-In post yesterday. Now trying to remember where it was! I'll post a link when I do.

Obviously Nige's quote has been trimmed for effect. I don't know what his evidence is that needed to be more rationally rebuked here to justify the point. Or maybe it's two groups guessing, which on this one I suspect is 90+ % of it.

We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.

A population density of 3 people per square kilometre and they send kids to "processing centres" or ship them to Cambodia. NICE !

I don't feel well enough to reply to each telegraph myth in turn but i can honestly say i don't "get it" .

We pay for the right to make someone somewhere in europe more powerful than our own pm in British affairs . Why have a prime minister then ?

We live in a free world , does anyone honestly think europeans will refuse to import the goods we already send there if we exit ?

I think North Korea remained a communist country until very recently but even then there was nothing to stop them visiting a free europe or Britain .

Opinions abound on both sides of the fence but all i am hearing from the IN crowd is "we only pay a little bit" but my question is what do we pay for - the right to trade - its a free world are they going to put a trade embargo on Britain if we quit ?

Knocked the quotes out, but my two pence on this...

>> I don't know why you think the European Parliament is more powerful than the UK parliament in UK affairs, so can't answer this one. I don't think they are. I do think they influence some legislation; some of which I think is a good thing, some of which I do not. Even the Out campaigners put the figure of legislative influence at under 45%, the In lot reckon its about 12%. I suspect it's somewhere in between.

We live in a free world , does anyone honestly think europeans will refuse to import the goods we already send there if we exit ?

>> If EU manufacturing standards change and our goods do not, then yes I do think they will refuse. I also think we will have import duty imposed making UK products cost more in Europe. Unless a free trade agreement is negotiated. Which is entirely possible, but will almost certainly involve paying into the EU and visa free travel; so the same as now without any representation in the European parliament.

I think North Korea remained a communist country until very recently but even then there was nothing to stop them visiting a free europe or Britain .

>> I think it's generally still regarded as communist., although there are many flavours of communism. Aside from most NK citizens being prevented from visting by their own government, they need to apply for a visa to visit the EU including the UK. If we don't like someone we don't have to admit them. This applies right now to EU citizens too. Not sure what the point is here though.

Opinions abound on both sides of the fence but all i am hearing from the IN crowd is "we only pay a little bit" but my question is what do we pay for - the right to trade - its a free world are they going to put a trade embargo on Britain if we quit?

>> Regarding trade in goods and services, it wouldn't be an embargo. It would be import duty, and the additional beauracracy that creates. Depending on our attitude to requiring visas from EU nationals it could also mean visa requirements for UK citizens to live and work in the EU. As well as the whole stable and prosperous Europe which I'll mention although I know that doesn't concern you.

And hope you feel better soon.
