eu in or out poll

Is there a way to stop seeing this thread? I know I can just ignore but I would like to not get announcements there has been a reply.
No names, no pack drill, but I'm getting pissed off with all the flippant replies people are posting as a backhanded way of, to my mind, insulting the person they are replying to.
This thread has lost it's thread.

Chas, thats one reason I posted last night about going back to talking about landcruisers, other forums I use have closed the EU In/Out threads, reminded users that the forum is not for political debate and if thats what they want they should sign up to a relevant forum.

Yes it's topical at the moment but this is a landcruiser site, and a common interest for us all to unite behind despite different political beliefs and allegiances. If the thread carries on I can see things getting out of hand eventually.

so many contradictions it's hard to know where to start.if all cultures are not equal some must be superior or inferior to others. How are you measuring that Ben? This is not a million miles away from the idea that some race's are superior or inferior to others & we know what that has caused in the past. The comments about Greece conveniently forgot to mention that the Greeks work the longest hours in Europe & the Germans have the most generous social benefits. The Greek debt crisis had several causes including German banks lending money that they knew couldn't be paid back , that was then used to buy some very expensive German armaments. In the land of Socrates & Plato whilst democracy was being born the Germanic tribes were scrabbling around in the mud.

@Rob Cowell, I didn't post what he said the day after Brexit, I didn't hear it. I have no comment on that as I don't think it relevant. If you have no problems with what I did post, does that mean you agree with it, aprove of it, can't poke holes in it, or something else?

Sorry @Pumpy I must have touched a nerve I didn't mean to. As I said, I agree with his sentiment that you can like Europe but not the EU.

I just recognised him as the fella who backtracked from the Vote Leave position on Newsnight around the migration controls. I do think that is relevant when judging him as a person and someone who might influence future negotiations. I think I can coincidently agree with a specific statement though.

And also the reason terminology such as racism and bigotry are often used in debating this issue.

The Greek debt crisis had several causes including German banks lending money that they knew couldn't be paid back , that was then used to buy some very expensive German armaments.

not to mention that fact the Greece was a little creative with it's books and huge percentages of the population don't pay tax.........

I think the problem is there is a Land Cruiser forum where there is little or no debate outside Land Cruisers. And frankly it's boring. I think it would be a shame to constrain topics for discussion, but I will hold my hand up as someone who whinged about what I saw as racist and offensive "jokes" a couple of years ago, and I think is why we had / have (?) a specificly protected part of the site for what might be termed indecorous humour. There are people on this thread who didn't think that was necessary. I do think a forum should be self-moderating, and if we think this is going to make people fall out, I'll give it a rest. I think the next few months may reveal much common ground here as everyone could be about to get what they didn't want. I'd prefer people to call out specifics and see if they can be addressed before putting a cap on it. It's a general problem with written communication that so many subtleties in sentiment, good nature and humour can be lost.

@Chas, there are plugins for XenForo (the forum software) that allow people to ignore threads but I don't think they are installed. I don't know if that's trivial and free for Crispin to do.

With regards to notifications you can unsubscribe from threads or even turn off all notifications (which is what I did). That way folk can continue along without you being bothered.

I can't see any reason to close this thread, healthy debate and on topic....

For the benefit of people like me who couldn't work out how to unfollow a thread, it's in the top right of the frame holding the thread. "Unwatch Thread" link. Basically go to the top of this page, come down a little and look at the list of page numbers for the thread on the left, and the link is to the right of that.

From listening to authorities on the telly. When all the renegotiations are done and the dust has settled the new Europe will be like the new Top Gear. Same old boring topic with different presenters. The outers are beginning to see that there will not be much difference.

Thanks Rob, I hadn't seen that link.

as for closing the thread - I don't think it is a good idea. Yes, this is a LC site but this is the Lounge and any conversation or debate goes. If you don't like it

Good analogy. The ginger will be a scruffy white-haired guy and the American will be a German.

Good times :|

That made me laugh :-) We had a life of Brian quote earlier, now i shift to another classic
(Middle aged English woman runs off to Greece and finds love, gets dumped and then rekindles romance with hubby)

Shirley Valentine: So don't talk to me about the English. Because while the Greeks were building roads and cities and temples, what were the English doing? I'll tell you what the English were doing. They were running around in loincloths, plowing up the earth with the arse bone of a giraffe!"

This is quickly becoming a disaster of epic proportions. The latest from the EU is "don't slam the door on the way out" with the brexit side furiously backpedaling , markets jittery & a reported rise in xenophobic a incedents our politicians are increasingly looking passengers.so much for regaining sovereignty.

Johnson and Gove not bothered to turn up to parliament today. So much for taking back control and regaining sovereignty.

Immigration or not population growth is a given that will not be denied even if they put a force field around every nation . It is for national governments to develop the infrastructure to support that growth . There is no one size fits all solution .

Our infrastructure is failing but thanks to outside influence hundreds of millions of pounds have been spent on posh marina's that nobody will ever use . The same amount again on fancy apartments overlooking those marina's that nobody can afford even if somebody actually wanted to live in a high rise flat (i guess this must be considered a good thing somewhere in Europe?)
Statues and monuments planted here there and everywhere that only serve to assist people in tripping over on the cracked pavements should they divert their eyes to take a look .
Barry town ain't no postcard picture pretty but not to worry the EU gave them several buckets of millions which was promptly spent redecorating government offices . Another handout turned out to be only half the cost of a bus lane but not to worry they found the rest from somewhere and so happily someone has worked it out that they have shaved an average of something like 4.2 seconds off the time it takes to get to hospital for the appointment you have waited 2 years for .
The mines are shut the town is broken so the EU builds a university there and wonders why the locals aren't happy , these people come from generations of spit and shovel calloused hands and a strong back , they don't trust pen pushers and you just filled their town with them . They hate you . But all the local politicians are happy because their own wages have tripled and their position is unassailable because the locals have accepted there is no point in voting because the next twat can be bought just as easy as all the rest .

Money makes the world go round . The only question that matters is can an independent Britain survive and prosper .

And believe it can and will .

That's appalling. I don't suppose you have a link to something that shows that? Bridgend have made some pretty shocking decisions over money but at least they had the good grace to waste council tax!

Did the EU build the University? Is that the new Cardiff and Vale college that I think the Welsh Assembly funded most of. I know they had a cheap loan from the EU for some of the money, but I don't think the EU pushed for it. I think it was the Assembly and the University of South Wales. You may have seen a different story?

I think what we have here is local authorities and organisations spending money where it might not be most effective. If, and it's a big if, Westminster deign to give us a few pennies it'll be the same people spending it in the future won't it?

What would be a good think to spend money on in Barry? We seem to be getting luxury flats in the middle of Bridgend! At least your luxury flats can look out to sea. I really have no idea who will buy the ones we're getting. Although at least the council is trying something. It's not a nice place to be right now.

Best political quote I've seen since Camerons announcement...
Didn't get his own way, won't lead the country, Mr Cameron you sir are a coward and will be remembered as the PM who stamped his feet and spat his dummy out!!

(of course not everyone who voted out is a racist the same way not every muslim is a IS Extremist)

and this is cracking, The Sun, a supporter of the Leave campaign, has revealed to its readership just how BREXIT will effect its readers, and their not happy by a long shot

A long time ago in this thread I posted my concern that the vote would be governed by what the media tell people rather than the voters own informed decisions based on facts. Looks more and more like a lot of voters did just that.

I don't have links Rob my post was triggered by your saying somewhere "you would like to know what makes the other side tick" or something similar . In truth i fully expected you of all people to shoot me down for it saying that wasn't the EU accompanied by a bunch of facts and figures and links .

I'm enjoying the debate because without the forum i have few people to debate with . I am a misplaced person , they know what i drink in the pubs they know what i smoke in the shops i drive about and get a wave here and there everyone knows my truck and i get on well with all my neighbours . But still i have no history here no network . I truly miss Helen's father because we could argue for hours about absolutely anything in fact that's about all we did and yet we enjoyed each others company .

Anyway - perception . Facts and figures are a politicians language , how many remain voters felt the need to bring a pen of their own to make their mark on the ballot paper do you think ?

That's the crux of it 17.5 million people handed the gov a vote of no confidence .

The real tragedy is we don't have a single elected person with the strength of personality to take us through this storm .

Good man. I love a good argument. Err, debate. :-)

I dont agree with everything in that article, but I found it interesting hence why I posted it.
