'SWAMPY' MY 02 LWB 3.0 D4D GX Colorado

No idea how all of this has got away from me for so long?!

i just chucked two 3rd row seat headrests in bin this afternoon i can retrieve if you want!

what is distance between the holes? if you want them to make sure correct ones

they are grey cloth

ok they are out of the bin now

prongs are 10cm apart (centre to centre_

the metal prongs are at rear of headrest, and front of headrest is 13cm forward of the prongs
so this style of seat maybe different from yours

the rear 3rd row seats were one unit that bolted to floor of boot and folded forwards.

Thanks for your very kind offer Andy, but I had a measure up and the distance between the holes on Swampy's seats are in fact different as suggested by Chadr. Get 'em back in the bin m* before the wife starts to complain about them :)

Swampy's looking really good - love the mods.
Cheers M8 :) Although I enjoy doing the mods I would like to be able to step back one day saying 'Well that's all that done then, now what shall I do?' Lol :)

I've read through the whole thread and you've done some great mods. Really nice car
Thank you  :icon-biggrin:

Doing great with the build. Steve:thumbup:

BIG shame about the damage plus the wheel  suppose it happens with what we use them for. The touch up did great though

Keep up the good work. I'm sure Chris (Humber4x4) could knock you a front bumper up :icon-wink:
Cheers Karl :) Tis a shame about the damage, but there's an inevitability to it as you say. Think I'll hold off on the steel bumper for now, you know me and unessessary weight :shifty: :icon-biggrin:

I took Robert over to a friends house for the day that's a bit of a drive from home over in Halsted, so I took the opportunity to bimble along a few of Essex's lanes on the way home.

It was a lovely day for it :)

I popped over to my m8, Giles's house with a hand full of bits and allowed him to practice his TIG welding skills on my new CB aerial mount :)

I'm pleased with it, but think that Giles could do with a little more practice so need to find something else for him to practice on :) ;)

It's tidy but the words Ground Plane spring to mind.

Usually we don't have to communicate over very long distances with these but you can't cheat the laws of physics. Interference from the body work and lack of metal under the mount may limit its range.

Hey what a grumpy old bastard I am. It looks lovely. Just not sure it will reach out. Time for that 4k burner you have always wanted.

Come back..

looks like a nice way of doing it.

Very neat

Come back..

I had considered the ground plane during the design phase and concluded that it would be no worse than what I had before on Fiery as the aerial location is very very similar. I have also beefed up the earthing between the main body of the truck and the back door and put an earthing strap between the back door and the spare wheel mount as well as making certain that the DV base has an excellent connection to earth. I used to achieve a good 3/5 miles range dependent upon conditions with the same aerial mounted in a very similar way on Fiery, time will tell I'm sure :icon-smile:

I had a large box of OE Toyota parts arrive a couple of weeks back with all kinds of dash and switch lamps, clips screws and mounts that I felt the need to own :shifty: :icon-smile:

In the box were a whole load of trim clips for re-attaching the front body molding that I removed when last up in Wales and after a quick bit of plastic welding and a rivet it was all back on :icon-biggrin:

Luckily before ordering all of the new clips and screws I'd noticed that the rear body molding was also a little loose, so I ordered enough to re-secure this one also. I don't recall hitting this molding myself so assume that I inherited this from a previous owner. It turned out to be worse than I had first thought and will need some time spent having plastic welding done before it's ready to go back on :icon-rolleyes: :icon-smile:

Do you plastic weld with just a soldering iron and some spare plastic as filler??

Yep, that's pretty much it and it works really well :) in fact surprisingly well :) :) If I was being a critic a higher wattage soldering iron would speed things along a bit, but my 35watt one works fine for the job :) I just collect bits of plastic from off of bumpers, mudflaps etc when I'm modifying them to use as filler at a later date. I've also trimmed bits of bumper and mudflap off from inconspicuous areas to use as filler when needs must :)

At some point I need to do a freon my 80 so will pop down the local body shop and collect a few bits of old bumper or just keep an eye on the ditches around my place.

I've fitted a couple of small switches into the side of the left hand boot trim, one is so that I can isolate the 12v accessory socket in the boot should I wish to and the other is a switch to turn on the reversing lights when stationary as a source of illumination if ever required :)

Before I rushed into back feeding the reversing lights I rigged them up on a temporary supply for 10/15 minutes to assess the effects and even took a current reading on the ol' AVO :) All seemed well and the only oddity if you could call it that was that the 'R' symbol on the dash lit up also :)

Handy having the R light up like that, so you'd know if the switch had accidentally been turned on :icon-cool:

One wonders if this would also feed back to the ECU. That could be rather entertaining if the circuit was engaged in normal driving.

Nice thinking Jon  I'd not thought of that :icon-biggrin: :icon-cool:

I considered this myself and meant to have a look at the schematics before doing it, but just never got around to it :icon-rolleyes: I shall have a quick look retrospectively though at some point :shifty:  It's why I left it on for so long in test to see if there would be any ill effects, maybe not the best way to find out if it was likely to cause any issues, but hey-ho it's done now :icon-biggrin: I did think that it would be no different to having a stuck reversing light switch and that the ECU probably does not need to know if the truck is in reverse or not, so you'd just be driving around with the reversing lights on blissfully unaware apart from the 'R' lit up on the dash :icon-biggrin:

Just checked through the electrical schematics and it would appear that the reversing lights have no interaction with any of the vehicles ECU's :)

I've been through the interior of Swampy and replaced every single blown illumination lamp in every switch and indicator panel that should have a lamp and many that had not yet blown. I replaced eight in the instrument cluster alone and five in the heater controls & clock and a further twelve in the various switches and gear selector panel!!! God only knows what I've spent, but plenty!

It's a job I need to do on my 80 Steven, but looking at what you've had to do, I'm even less likely to have a go at mine :eusa-naughty:

You'll feel like you're driving a 747 next time you take Swampy out in the dark
