Thank you Karl for supplying me the wheels in a not off the shelf colour (satin black) they'll match the sliders and winch tray realy well when I get them back from the Galv

Still don't know Took loads of comparison photos again though. The 255's are fitted to the 80 series alloys

Stop dithering and keep those lovely looking 285s - they really set off the rest of the truck. The 255s looked OK on the shorter 90 but they just don't seem to be able to carry it off on the bigger 95.

Well that's my 2p worth at least!

My 2p worth, 285's on 80 wheels if you are on the road most of the time. Keep the 255's for off roading and when it snows. The 285's give a bit more confidence somehow especially in the wet or pushing on or both, maybe a bit more rubber in contact? I've used both sizes (KM2's) to compare in all conditions but only on 80's.

would the 285 not hydroplane more in the wet?
I used to have 34x12.5 and they would be terrible at catching the puddles at night where as a narrow tyre would be less affected. I have 255 on my 80 but think they look a little to small. not sure if I should go 285 or 35 when they need replacing.

With Mr Lomas... Hydro planing is only a problem if the tread on your tyres is too thin OMHO.

The 285's look better imo. The 255's are narrow but I run them as an everyday tyre on the 80.
Keep both and swap as required lol.

Which set actually drives better? I find the wider the tyre, the more these trucks tend to want to dart around. Personally I would feel more comfortable on the road with the wider 285's...

Steven as per our conflab re skid plates today.



Now i reckon that the SWB plate I have goes up to the white line I have put in the below picture (not been into the workshop yet to have a propper look so from memory). On Dirty Gal I don't have that Xmember for the rear of the transfer plate so one was provided with the kit.


I you wouldn't mind mate I'll take a piccy of mine and photoshop some dimensions on if you could do the same would be a massive help.

Cheers for that Steve. I need to get down to the yard and sort some measurements out. Would be great if this guy didn't have to travel ally the way up here to have them fitted.

The rock sliders, winch tray and recovery hook came back from the Galv' looking all shiny and new Until they were T-washed ready to be painted satin black




Except for the winch tray that I think I'm going to keep in Galv





The 16 SMD L.E.D panels also came, so I them fitted along with some L.E.D lamps for the Vanity mirrors






















And a small delivery came from Simon Holton




Oh and I had the 285 tyres fitted all round and balanced
























Just need to get the center caps painted now and fitted

No chance of this one getting a snorkel fitted, but I do need to spend some time understanding where the air gets in and what my best safe wading depth will be allowing for the suspension lift and larger tyres. I may look into fitting a covert snorkel as Roger made for his with a change over valve of some kind. I think the best thing is just to keep away from any deep water. What say you Trev'

LED lighting looks good, do you not find it a little clinical though? I think I'd rather go with a "warm" style lighting.

It is a bit clinical and white, but I do find that when I'm in the middle of a forest at night needing to do something like fixing, cooking or putting up the tent I just want to be able to see what I'm doing clearly and LED lighting does just that. I was camping up in Wales this weekend just gone in a forest and needed to spend 20min fixing/making something with a sharp knife on the passenger seat of my m8's LandRover and I just needed good lighting. Luckily he also has an array of LED lighting so the job was easy I can understand wanting a warmer lighting source when sat round the camp fire, but in the truck I want something that's going to enable me to see what I'm doing and LED's are what do that for me All that said I think you can get a warmer white LED if that's your preferrence


This is what you need for a bit of warm ambiance lighting. It's the fire we had on Saturday evening
