Gaffer tape, lol
Hammer?

Almost finished my first gearbox out job on my old Volvo 850 to replace a rear main seal (now owned by a mate). Has taken 2 whole days and only got battery, airbox and bits of plastic left.

solid 8 hours in my garage today

1) replaced front flexy brake hose on passenger side (i did drivers side last weekend), and in process had to get flaring kit out and replace the short brake pipe between calliper and flexy hose...

2) replaced the steering rack bushes, managed to do this without disconnecting tie-rod ends. had to get dremel and then angle grinder out to remove the bushes and metal tube on the bushing on the drivers side, since rear washer seemed to be stuck or joined to the tube... and used a big D-clamp to press the thing out once i had cut the washer off.

3) replaced the drivers side front-diff side oil seal. time consuming job as battery had to come out to remove the upper-control arm/wishbone bolt, remove ABS wire clamps, disconnect brake line, disconnect front ARB links (which i had just reconnected after doing steering rack.... ).

Busy day today. Put diff back in MUD today, replaced all 4 trailing arms on the rear axle. With this improvement and the XZL tyres its a better car on the road.

Did an oil change, oil filter and oil pressure sending unit. I now get a far better reading on the dash and it responds to the "loud" pedal.

Also offered up the rear bumper to the car and all I now have to do is sort the underside of the car and i can get it fitted.

Did you blow the front diff in the green car?

Fixed my cigarette/power point :D

the colorado has two pionts the one on the left has been great and the one on the right never worked since i had it so i took the two screws out by the ash tray and pulled the centre front out to see the wires had come off the back so put them on and jobs a goodun. Five minute fix and i can now have the Crap nav on whilst charging the phone

No Rob, the rear diff. The collapsible washer needed replacing and was seen to by JW.

Been stripping my front hubs today....damn messy job! :?

Fitted new diffs. Tidied up loads of little bits and bobs along the way too. Stripped and cleaned locker motor. Both looking like new.

Chris

Honestly Andy? It doesn't feel a whole lot different. Need time to cover a range of driving situations I think. They are certainly smooth and quiet, just as we'd expect from Wildsmith Inc. Lockers all working. No drips, not a single washer left over. Front hubs all looked spot on including the marr tacked shafts, new HDK CVs and the needle roller conversion in the stub axle. Obviously had to use up my spare OEM inner oil seal after the problem I encountered with the oil retaining ring. I need that fuel tweak I think.

Chris

Hi Chris, right, I'll be over in the morn with MUD to sort the pulley mods out. Having successfully modded my 24V pump to make a major difference I'll do the same to yours to try and improve its low down grunt.

See ya. Andy

Today ... i ill mainly be trying to make my drivers side front window work ....

Fitted some fog lights to the 120. No more "there should be something here" blanks in the ARB :)

Thanks to Gary for organising them.

Now stripped, de-gunged, cleaned and degreased both front hubs.

Glad I opted to fit new wheel bearings and swivel bearings as 2 wheel bearings are shot and the 2 lower swivel bearings are notchy. That would explain why keeping it in a straight line was proving difficult!! :?

I'm off down to my mates garage tomorrow to use his fancy press to put my new needle rollers into the stub axles. I think Santa is going to have to get me a floor standing press this year :P

I forgot to order my wheel bearing oil seals so gonna have to wait till Tuesday to do that. I will just have to console myself with stripping the brake calipers and fitting the new seals while I wait for parts delivery.

I also started fitting my new axle breather kit as my old one got bunged up with nasty Moly/gear oil mix. I also didn't have the breathers for the diff lock actuators done last time either so they are being sorted with the new kit

As i said bill, usually better to have the wheel bearings to hand when doing it

How did you get on with the tapered washers on the opposit side?
