    The people have spoken

I do not have a strong view either way on whether the UK should leave the EU or stay. However what is clear that over the last 20 years or so many skilled and semi-skilled workers have benefited from an increased standard of living while the those with less to offer have seen their standard of...

Anyone running AGM battery under the hood?

Hi @WC57 I have almost exactly the setup on my UK based 80 that @StarCruiser describes above. It has worked very well for me. Some other advantages are that the standard "wet" start battery is cheap to buy and most AGM batteries are happy to provide emergency start current should you need it.

Breakdown East of the Cederberg Mountains South Africa

Hiya Chris :) Great to hear from you. We were glad to survive as well, it is an amazingly remote place. I now keep a 17mm ring spanner in my door pocket to remind me to check those nuts and the bottom of the rear shocks properly. We had recently made a lot of deep river crossings and would...

Breakdown East of the Cederberg Mountains South Africa

Below is a copy of my recent posting I made on the South Africa LCCSA forum of some fun Zeda and I had when exploring east of the Cederberg in the Western Cape of South Africa. Around 200Km NNE of Cape Town. The area is desert/semi desert and surprisingly remote. Having spent the weekend of...

Quick bit of CDL advice please

Cheers Rob Thanks for the information. The breather on my CDL has rotted at the T joint so I am pretty sure it has allowed water in. Especally as we did a lot of deep swimming earlier this year when in Lesotho. Reckon I will take the exactly the same route as you. Hi @AndycruiserguyLomas...

    Puzzled by Sinking Brake Pedal

Hi Towpack. I am in agreement with you in using a simple bleeding system. The method I use is very simply and cheap. I attach a metre or so of clear plastic tube (ID 6mm) to each bleed nipple in turn and tape the top of it to the side of the car so it is well above the height of the brake...

    Puzzled by Sinking Brake Pedal

Please accept my apologies for the delay in returning to this forum but our NS knuckle steering arm parted company with the steering knuckle in a remote area to the east of the Cederberg which involved a bit of an adventure (including hiring another 4x4) to sort out. I will post separately about...

please post image of exploded diagram of front hub / steering knuckle

Hi, we are travelling in the Karoo in our 80 series and I managed to break the studs holding the steering knuckle arm to the knuckle. Stripped out the knuckle and we walked out with it the next morning. Very remote area so it was a long hot day to get to a farm. We have new studs etc. and plan...

Last night I reversed into the garage (knowing the brakes were poor) and couldn't stop. Managed to brake Zelda's huge dance mirror :fearscream:. Going to have to replace that pronto. Mountain test coming later today...

    Puzzled by Sinking Brake Pedal

Thank you all for your input, it is much appreciated. I had another bleed all round last night and the brakes improved, the car stops fine but the pedal just does not feel right to me :grimacing:. Zelda went out on a test drive and felt the brakes are better than they have ever been...

    Puzzled by Sinking Brake Pedal

Hi guys. I would appreciate your thoughts on the behavior of the brakes on my 80. This is the 24v 1995 without ABS. While I was travelling in Greece Zelda reported that Zorro's (thats the 80 with the issue) brakes were 'a little soft'. I got back to Cape Town a few days ago and the brakes...

    RIP Aretha Franklin

Yep. A ludicrously funny movie - one of my favourites. I first saw it as a 'B' movie supporting the main attraction. I was amazed at all these great artists popping up and then along comes Carrie Fisher as the crazed girlfriend. Your right. Aretha's scene in the diner is brilliant.

    Rear suspension

Hi Vivek, I just went out and checked my 80 series. Viewed from the rear and lightly loaded I make exactly the same measurements as you:openmouth: I have never noticed that before . My 80 is currently very lightly loaded. As weight is added the axle will shift to the left as the...

    80s series at auction

Yep, life is full of jokes like that :grinning:. The first 80 I ever owned I bought off UK eBay sight unseen with no other information other than the listing. I didn't even see it for 6 weeks as I was in Greece at the time; it was probably an overdose of Ouzo that prompted me to buy it...

    80s series at auction

Hi Chris As you say nothing beats a good inspection. I would happily buy a car without an MOT. I find the online MOT history is very useful to help me decide whether or not I think it is worth going to take a look at a car. It is the Fails, Advisories and mileage pattern that I pay...

MOT history for UK registered cars is available from around 2006 onward for free online at: "https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history". It lists all fails, passes, advisories and normally includes mileage. As well as the raw information you can get an idea of how loved a car was. E.g. seeing the...

Is this a suitable battery upgrade for overland use?

In this setup the alternator is adjusting its output voltage by sensing the voltage (and therefore charge state) of the start battery, or the resultant voltage of both batteries when they are linked via the solenoid. Thus there is only one charge profile (unlike DC-DC chargers which allow two...

Is this a suitable battery upgrade for overland use?

The T-Max is a voltage sensing unit. When the untit detects a voltage of 13.3v or more at either battery it connects them. When it detects a voltage of 12.8v or less at either battery it disconnects them. Although it is not mentioned in the specifications the control unit waits 5 seconds...

Don't think you are thinking this through Frank. The obvious Trump answer to this dilema would be to equip teachers and school guards with heavy artillery.
